Oh, The Places You'll Go!

**quoted from Dr. Seuss Oh The Places You'll Go

Congratulations!
Today is your day.
You're off to Great Places!
You're off and away!

You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself
any direction you choose.

You're on your own.
And you know what you know.
And YOU are the guy
Who'll decide where to go.

You'll look up and down streets.
Look 'em over with care.
About some you will say,
"I don't choose to go there."
With your head full of brains
And your shoes full of feet,
You're too smart to go down
Any not-so-good street.

You'll be on your way up!
You'll be seeing great new sights!
You'll join in the high fliers
who soar to high heights.

And will you succeed?
Yes! You will, indeed!
98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed.
KID, YOU'LL MOVE MOUNTAINS!

Thursday & Friday were moving day...Austen is now officially out of the nest. It still doesn't seem "done". I almost called him to dinner last night. It felt strange not to be waiting up for Austen to get home from work at night. Jessie said it was strange not hearing the tap, tap, tap of the keyboard in the background as Austen types. We're all adjusting to one less family member at home.

On the other hand, Austen seems to be adjusting very well. He is part of the Computer Science Freshman Interest Group (FIG) and FIG has a handful of activities planned this week before classes begin. Last night they were suppoed to meet for dinner together.

Austen's roommate, Jonathon, is very nice & was very helpful during the move. Denise, Austen, Jonathon, & I managed to put Austen's bed up on the bunk rails, while Jeff & Jessie made multiple trips to the cars to move boxes. Austen's room ended up being much bigger than we all expected, and once he bunked his bed and put his desk & dresser under the bed, there was even MORE space! I was laughing with Jeff about the difference in girls & boys. Austen's room has the basics, everything he'll NEED to be comfy. But watching the girls move in, and remembering what my dorm rooms were like...what a difference! The girls had plants, feather pillows, bulletin boards, pictures & posters, rugs. So funny how different girls & boys are about living spaces. I remember in my Sophmore dorm, we even put up contact paper wallpaper border in our room!

The only thing I think Austen still needed was a hamper, and yesterday Jessie found a hillarious hamper shaped like a penguin, complete with wings & a 3D head. Just perfect for the college guy's room! I can't wait to hear what he thinks of Jessie's find...so darn funny!

After our marathon moving day (we left Flower Mound at 9:30, arrived in San Marcos around 2:00 and finished moving Austen in around 5:30), Jeff, Reese, and I headed to our hotel for the night while Denise & Jessie drove home. Jessie had her 8th Grade orientation the next morning at 8:30, so they weren't able to stay. Reese was so tired, he asked to go to bed at 7:00...so we called it an early night!

The next morning, we headed back to Austen's dorm so that Jeff could help him fix the computer connection problems. Austen had and Orientation meeting at 10:00, so we left his room so he could make it in time. It was very strange to drive away, knowing that he's on his own now.

On our way home, we stopped in Round Rock for some world famous Round Rock Donuts. I grew up eating them, knowing they were good but just "normal" donuts I guess. Round Rock Donuts was featured on a Food Network TV show about the best donuts in America, and ever since then Jeff has wanted to try them. So we stopped on our way back, and I forgot how yummy they were! Oink oink, we ate the whole dozen in a day (with help from Jessie!)

So, we're back, Austen's gone, and life takes on a different meaning of "normal" now. Since it's a 4 hour drive, visiting Austen will take some planning on our part...and I'm sure we'll be making the trip again in a month or so :)
